The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) Graduate School marked a milestone with the successful launch of its inaugural Balayag Research Colloquium, held on June 25–26, 2024.
With the theme “Cultivating the Role of Education and Linguistic Diversity in Fostering Inclusive Educational Practices and Leadership Strategies,” the two-day event brought together graduate students, faculty, and guest scholars to explore how inclusive and culturally responsive education can shape future leadership.
Organized by graduate students themselves, the colloquium featured plenary talks from renowned scholars including:
Dr. Felix Chavez Jr.
Dr. Irish F. Dalona
Dr. Aurelio Agcaoili
Dr. Francis Tom A. Paredes
Their talks offered thought-provoking insights on education, language, and leadership—enriching the academic exchange and inspiring both students and faculty.
ASSCAT President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano lauded the initiative, emphasizing its role in empowering scholars to lead conversations on inclusion and educational transformation. She also took part in the event, showing full support to the Graduate School community.
A key highlight of the colloquium was the presentation of student research, where graduate students received feedback from faculty panels. These sessions not only sharpened their academic work but also encouraged collaborative learning and critical inquiry.
“Balayag—a Manobo word for rainbow—symbolizes the diverse perspectives and voices that came together during this event,” shared one of the organizers. “It’s about bridging gaps in knowledge and leading with empathy.”
The Balayag Research Colloquium signals the Graduate School’s growing commitment to nurturing scholarly dialogue that reflects both local relevance and global aspirations.
