BUNAWAN, AGUSAN DEL SUR — June 15, 2024
More than 800 students of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) received educational assistance today through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Each of the 806 beneficiaries received ₱3,000, helping ease the burden of daily academic expenses. The payout was held on-campus, following a joint validation and coordination process between ASSCAT and DSWD Field Office Caraga to ensure only qualified students were included. Recipients were bona fide residents of Agusan del Sur and currently enrolled at the College.
This initiative was made possible through the continued partnership between ASSCAT and the office of Congressman Adolph Edward G. Plaza, who personally attended the activity. Also present were Vice Governor Samuel E. Tortor, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Bunawan Mayor Sylvia B. Elorde, Vice Mayor Gilbert G. Elorde, and other local officials.
“This support comes at a crucial time,” said ASSCAT President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano. “Many of our students juggle school with part-time jobs or family obligations. Financial assistance like this helps them stay in school and stay focused.”
For third-year agriculture student Ella Mae, the payout means being able to afford her internship travel costs. “I’ve been worrying about how to make ends meet. This payout is a big help,” she said.
The payout activity is part of DSWD’s broader efforts to support individuals and families facing financial strain. The AICS program has been instrumental in delivering urgent assistance to students, patients, and other vulnerable sectors.
