ASSCAT Joins 126th Independence Day and Grand Opening of Naliyagan Festival 2024

The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) joined the province in commemorating the 126th Philippine Independence Day and officially opening the 32nd Naliyagan Festival on June 12, 2024, at the Naliyagan Grounds, Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

ASSCAT President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, along with members of the Administrative Council, represented the College in the provincial celebration that brought together government leaders, cultural groups, educational institutions, and community stakeholders across Agusan del Sur.

The day began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony to honor the heroes of Philippine independence, followed by a grand civic-military parade. One of the most anticipated segments was the tribal parade, which showcased the rich cultural traditions of the Manobo, Banwaon, Talaandig, and Higaonon tribes. Participants wore traditional attire, carried handmade crafts, and performed indigenous dances—highlighting the province’s deep connection to its ancestral roots.

Now in its 32nd year, the Naliyagan Festival is a week-long celebration of Agusan del Sur’s heritage, artistry, and community spirit. It serves as a platform for promoting unity through cultural pride while supporting the preservation and promotion of indigenous knowledge systems and practices.

ASSCAT extends its gratitude to the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, led by Governor Santiago B. Cane Jr., and to the First District Representative, Hon. Eddiebong G. Plaza, for spearheading this meaningful celebration of identity, history, and progress.

As an institution committed to inclusive education and community development, ASSCAT reaffirms its support for programs that honor culture and inspire future generations to uphold the values of freedom, resilience, and unity.
