Bunawan, Agusan del Sur – January 16, 2024
True to its commitment to community care and bayanihan, the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) swiftly mobilized a relief operation for students affected by the recent flooding in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
Spearheaded by Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, Dr. Janice Dini-ay, the operation was carried out on January 16, 2024, in collaboration with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Unit and a dynamic coalition of offices and student organizations.
The relief packs distributed to affected students included essential food items, multivitamins, and basic medicines—aimed at easing the burden brought on by the natural disaster. The effort reflects ASSCAT’s holistic approach to student welfare, responding not only to academic needs but also to the immediate concerns of its community in times of crisis.
This initiative falls under Pagtambayayong, ASSCAT’s institutional umbrella for collaborative outreach and support programs. The term, which means “working together” in Bisaya, perfectly captures the spirit behind the relief drive.
Various groups came together to make this effort possible, including:
Agri-Fishery Association (AFA)
ASSCAT Non-Teaching Personnel Association (ANPA)
ASSCAT Alumni Association
Supreme Student Government (SSG)
ASSCAT BSP Rover Scouts
Kab-ot Youth Organization
Their coordinated support not only amplified the impact of the operation but also demonstrated the power of solidarity in times of need.
“Pagtambayayong is more than a program—it’s a value we live by,” shared VP Dini-ay. “When our students are in distress, we act with urgency and unity.”
This latest response is a testament to ASSCAT’s enduring mission to serve not just as an educational institution, but as a responsive and compassionate community.
