Bunawan, Agusan del Sur — July 17–19, 2024
The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), in partnership with the University of Hawai‘i Ilokano Program and the NAKEM Consortium, proudly announces the upcoming 19th NAKEM International Conference, to be held on campus from July 17 to 19, 2024.
With the compelling theme: “Reframing Indigeneity and Affirming Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity,” this year’s conference is set to be a transformative space for scholars, educators, policymakers, and Indigenous advocates to engage in deep, critical dialogue on the intersections of culture, identity, and justice in education and society.
This international gathering will feature a stellar roster of confirmed plenary speakers—renowned scholars and practitioners who bring with them decades of experience and advocacy in the fields of Indigenous studies, education, language, policy, and cultural heritage. Their insights will drive conversations around reframing indigeneity not as marginal or peripheral, but as central to the pursuit of inclusive and equitable development.
All sessions will be hosted at Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology, a state-run institution situated at the heart of Mindanao, where ongoing initiatives on community development, Indigenous knowledge, and inclusive innovation converge.
Organized collaboratively by ASSCAT, the University of Hawai‘i Ilokano Program, and the NAKEM Consortium, this event is more than a conference—it is a movement committed to surfacing truths, proposing actionable solutions, and building solidarity among global communities advocating for diversity, equity, and cultural affirmation.
