In celebration of Scouting Month and Indigenous Peoples Month, Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) proudly organized the “Serve with JOY: Scout in Action Extension Program for Indigenous Peoples (IPs)” on October 31, 2024, in Dinagat, San Marcos, Bunawan. The event, which also formed part of ASSCAT GAD Focal Point System (GAD). This impactful initiative brought together scouts and community allies in a heartfelt service to IP pupils and families.

 

Leading the event was ASSCAT College President and Agusan del Sur Deputy Program Commissioner of Rover Scouting, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, whose dedication to both scouting and Indigenous community support remains steadfast. She was joined by other proud Indigenous leaders, including ASSCAT Innovation Director Prof. Ferdinand Dumalagan and ASSCAT Rover Scouts member Johanter Helarion, the newly elected ASSCAT SSG President, who worked alongside fellow scouts to deliver much-needed assistance.

 

The program was further strengthened by the collaborative efforts of volunteers and sponsors from ASSCAT Rover Scouts, PASAKK, ASSCAT SSG, IPYC, Kab-ot, AYAN, Inc., and ASSCAT ANPA, with generous support from community sponsors. Beneficiaries received school supplies, clothes, slippers, and food packs, all aimed at easing daily challenges and spreading hope and solidarity.

 

Dr. Capistrano remarked, “As scouts, we serve with commitment, and as members of the Indigenous community, we serve with pride and purpose.” Her sentiments echoed throughout the event, reminding all present of the power of unity and shared purpose in supporting one another.
