Today, May 8, 2024, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, the College President of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), had an important meeting with Team Eddiebong, Congressman Adolph Edward Plaza, at the Camp Madigun, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress and future plans of the College, which is currently undergoing a significant transformation.

 

One of the key updates shared by Dr. Capistrano was the college’s transition to become the Agusan del Sur State University, a milestone that marks a significant step forward for the institution. The meeting provided an opportunity for Congressman Plaza and other attendees, including Dr. Carmelo S. Llanto, ASSCAT VP for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, Dr. Jhonvie Goloran, Soil Science Consultant and Patricia Anne Plaza, 1st District Chief of Staff and 2nd District Head Executive Assistant, to learn more about the conversion process and its implications.

 

Additionally, Dr. Capistrano shared updates on ASSCAT’s agricultural research initiatives, highlighting the work of the Soils Health and Tropical Crops Research Institute. This research is significant in addressing the critical challenges faced by the agriculture sector, and the meeting served as a platform for discussing the latest findings and future directions. The meeting also touched on the college’s soil health initiatives, which are part of a broader effort to develop a Philippine National Soil Health Strategy in collaboration with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

 

Furthermore, the meeting focused on the transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ASSCAT and Griffith University, Australia’s leading institution in science and technology. This partnership aims to foster a comprehensive collaboration on soil science and soil health research, and the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the potential benefits and future directions of this collaboration.

 

Finally, the meeting discussed the various infrastructure projects that ASSCAT is undertaking to support its academic and research activities. These projects are significant in ensuring that the college has the necessary facilities and resources to deliver high-quality education and research.
