ASSCAT Strengthening Caraga's Timber Industry Through Global Collaboration

Dr. Dennis M. Gilbero, D.AgSci., Associate Professor IV of Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), recently returned from a six-day benchmarking visit to Japan—an international engagement funded by DOST-PCAARRD that focused on wood production innovations and research collaboration.

The visit allowed Dr. Gilbero and fellow participants to engage with researchers, explore laboratories, and visit research institutes at Nagoya University—his doctoral alma mater—as well as Kyoto University. Their goal? To study advanced technologies in wood production, explore innovation gaps, and identify potential opportunities for Philippine timber products in Japanese markets.

“As Caraga Region is recognized as the Timber Corridor of the Philippines— with Agusan del Sur supplying almost 80% of the country’s raw wood materials—this visit is timely,” Dr. Gilbero shared.
