ASSCAT Reaffirms Commitment to Agricultural Innovation

President Marcos Visits Agusan del Sur Soil Laboratory

Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur | February 16, 2024 — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. led a site visit to the Provincial Soil Laboratory at the D.O. Plaza Government Center, where he was warmly welcomed by local leaders, national officials, and representatives from the academe and international community.

Among the key participants was the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), represented by College President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano. As the academic partner of the Provincial Government in the establishment of the soil laboratory, ASSCAT plays a vital role in advancing agricultural research and innovation in the region.

The visit was also attended by prominent figures including Australian Ambassador Hae Kyong Yu, Agriculture Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Laurel Jr., and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrad Estrella, highlighting the strategic significance of this initiative.

President Marcos’ visit coincided with his situation briefing on the aftermath of the low-pressure area (LPA) that brought widespread flooding across the Caraga Region. During his engagement, he distributed Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and turned over assistance to affected LGUs.

ASSCAT’s involvement underscores its commitment to community building and its institutional vision of being “a globally engaged institution of sustainable agriculture and innovation.”

Through continued collaboration with the Provincial Government and national agencies, ASSCAT stands at the forefront of initiatives that aim to improve agricultural productivity, promote environmental sustainability, and empower local communities.
