ASSCAT Rises Among the Nation’s Best with PQA Level II Award
Earlier today, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, President of the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), joined fellow Caraga State Universities and Colleges, the Department of Science and Technology โ Caraga (DOST Caraga), and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) at the Official Launch and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing Ceremony of the Caraga Food Research, Innovation, and Commercialization Hub held at the HERO Activity Loft, Caraga State University.
This landmark event marks the formal establishment of the Caraga Food Innovation Consortium (CFIC)โa collaborative initiative among ASSCAT, CSU, NEMSU, SNSU, DOST Caraga, and DBMโaimed at driving research, development, and commercialization of innovative and nutritious food products using local and indigenous materials. The agreement aligns with the priorities under the โBagong Pilipinasโ agenda, contributing to food security, economic growth, and community resilience in the region.
The MOA outlines shared responsibilities and commitments among the member institutions, including establishing regional food innovation centers (FICs), supporting MSMEs and startups in product development, promoting technology transfer and commercialization, integrating food innovation into academic and community programs, targeting the development and commercialization of at least 50 functional food products by 2030, and building a sustainable R&D ecosystem with strong industry linkages.
A major highlight of the event was the presence of Hon. Amenah F. Pangandaman, Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management, whose leadership and strong policy support have been instrumental in moving regional innovation forward. Secretary Pangandaman not only witnessed the MOA signing but also actively engaged with the participants, listened to the presentation of proposals, and visited each SUCโs booth exhibit. ASSCAT proudly showcased its food innovations and research outputs, reflecting the Collegeโs continuing commitment to scientific advancement, community development, and regional collaboration. Her presence signified the national governmentโs unwavering commitment to inclusive and innovation-driven development.
As a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Joy C. Capistrano delivered a message of commitment on behalf of ASSCAT and emphasized the institutionโs dedication to advancing food research and innovation in Caraga. During the event, ASSCAT also presented a Plaque of Commendation to Secretary Pangandaman in recognition of her outstanding leadership, dedication to public service, and continued support to the education and research sectors, especially in the field of food innovation.
More than just a regional effort, the CFIC also supports global goals like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It helps end hunger (SDG 2) by improving access to safe and healthy food, boosts innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9) through stronger research efforts, and builds partnerships (SDG 17) by bringing together government, schools, and communities.
This partnership serves as a powerful step forward in transforming Caraga into a dynamic hub of food innovation, where science and technology are harnessed for public good, and where institutions work together to empower communities and build a more food-secure future.
