Cagwait, Surigao del Sur — January 18–20, 2024
In a focused move to strengthen its core mandates, the Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), through its Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension (RIDE) Division, successfully conducted a Target Setting and Planning Session held from January 18 to 20, 2024, in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.
Guided by Vice President for Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension, Dr. Fernando Marzo Jr., the session brought together key leaders and stakeholders from across the RIDE units to map out actionable strategies for the year ahead.
Among the key highlights of the three-day activity was the presentation of pragmatic and measurable targets for each unit under the RIDE Division. Spearheading the planning process were Engr. Ruel Sabugaa, Director for Research Services; Dr. Ferdinand Dumalagan, Director for Innovation; and Mr. Boylen Cabag, Director for Extension. Each director, along with their respective teams, presented their unit’s goals, aligning them with ASSCAT’s broader vision of growth and excellence in service delivery.
The session emphasized a forward-looking yet grounded approach—balancing ambition with attainability. Strategic frameworks were tailored to address local challenges while seizing opportunities for collaboration, community engagement, and innovation.
Critical to the discussions were the Instruments for Accreditation and SUC (State Universities and Colleges) Leveling. These benchmarks served as reference points for aligning targets with national standards and institutional development plans. The integration of these tools underscored ASSCAT’s proactive efforts in meeting quality assurance requirements and sustaining its upward trajectory as a higher education institution.
The planning session was further enriched by the presence and support of top college officials. ASSCAT President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance Dr. Carmelo Llanto, and Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Planning Ms. Ruth Desamparo joined the discussions and breakout sessions, offering insights and reinforcing the value of cross-functional collaboration.
Their participation affirmed the College’s united commitment to research, innovation, and extension as pillars of institutional growth and public service.
As ASSCAT moves into 2024, the outcomes of the RIDE Target Setting and Planning Session serve as a solid foundation for meaningful and measurable progress. The collaborative efforts showcased in Cagwait reflect a shared resolve: to push the boundaries of what is possible in research and development, extend innovative solutions to communities, and foster a culture of excellence across all units.
With clear targets in place and the collective momentum of its leadership and teams, ASSCAT is well-positioned to deliver impactful outcomes in the months ahead.
