The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), through the Department of Biology, proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its faculty and students during the 8th Caraga Health Conference held on November 12–13, 2025 at the Watergate Pavilion Hotel, Butuan City.

Representing the College across undergraduate and professional categories, the Department brought home multiple awards—affirming ASSCAT’s growing reputation as an emerging leader in health and scientific research in the region.

🥈1st Runner-Up, Best Paper – Oral Research Presentation

Llyode Ternate, Maiah Lhiegm Maquilan, and Aika Paula Condeza, BS Biology Students

“Schistosoma japonicum Infection in Snail Hosts and Its Correlation to Water Quality: Health Implications in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.”

Their work provided valuable insights into disease ecology and public health, earning them 1st Runner-Up in the highly competitive undergraduate oral presentation category.

“Youth Perspective on Reproductive Health and Health Care Services: A Study of Barriers and Opportunities in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.”

Her study resonated strongly with conference delegates, earning her the People’s Choice Award for its relevance to youth health and local community needs.

John Paul A. Camino, Faculty Member

“Crossroads of Identity and Health: Implications of Awareness and Self-Prescribed Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy Among Transwomen in Agusan del Sur.”

Mr. Camino’s poster earned First Place, showcasing relevant findings on gender, identity, and healthcare access in local contexts.

These accomplishments reflect the Department of Biology’s strong commitment to producing meaningful, community-centered research. The Department extends its gratitude to the ASSCAT administration, advisers, and research mentors for their continued support in advancing scientific and public health initiatives in Caraga.
