The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) showcased its growing strength in statistics, research, and data use at the 2025 Regional CBMS Convention and Data Festival Caraga, a major gathering of institutions and local governments working to advance community-based monitoring systems.
ASSCAT’s delegation of BS Applied Mathematics students Leomark Taño, Quennie Lucip, and Jypia Havana; BSEd Mathematics students Nica Guen Phala and Shiela Zamora; and BS Environmental Science student Janniah Vie Asuncion, guided by faculty coaches Rodel Azura, Jessica Balatero, and Mark Vincent Cortez, earned multiple recognitions.
Lucip was among only four students in Caraga selected to present a research paper, “Marine Litter Contamination in Selected Mangrove Areas in Lianga, Surigao del Sur,” underscoring ASSCAT’s commitment to marine conservation and environmental responsibility (SDG 14: Life Below Water).
Asuncion, part of a five-member team representing various LGUs and academic institutions, won the PSA Survey Says competition, demonstrating collaborative data literacy that supports sustainable and inclusive communities (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities). Phala secured third place in the Report-it Right data reporting contest, while Zamora captured first place in VizWiz for turning complex datasets into effective visual narratives, advancing quality education and innovation (SDG 4 and SDG 9).
These achievements highlight ASSCAT’s role in preparing future professionals who apply data-driven solutions to real-world challenges, reinforcing its contribution to sustainable development and community resilience across Caraga.
Congratulations, CASPamilya!
