ABOUT US
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance (OVPAAQA) typically carries a range of responsibilities within an educational institution. The Office has general supervision over all academic units, responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and is tasked with ensuring the quality and effectiveness of academic programs, fostering a conducive environment for learning, and complying with regulations and standards in higher education.
OVPAAQA Functions
Academic Program Oversight
Supervising and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of academic programs. This involves developing, reviewing, and updating curriculum, as well as assessing and maintaining the academic standards of the institution.
Faculty Development and Management
Supporting the professional growth of faculty members by offering development opportunities, mentoring, and guidance. This may also involve recruitment, evaluation, and promotion of faculty.
Accreditation and Compliance
Managing the accreditation process and ensuring the institution complies with the standards set by accrediting bodies. This involves maintaining documentation, undergoing evaluations, and implementing necessary improvements.
Academic Policy Development
Developing and implementing academic policies that align with the institution’s mission, educational standards, and best practices.
Student Success Initiatives
Implementing programs and initiatives to support student success, such as academic support services, advising programs, and initiatives to enhance student learning outcomes.
Budget and Resource Allocation
Overseeing the allocation of resources, including budgetary decisions related to academic programs, faculty needs, and academic support services.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data related to academic programs, faculty performance, and student outcomes to make informed decisions and improve educational quality.
Collaboration and Representation
Collaborating with other administrative bodies, faculty, and external stakeholders to ensure the alignment of academic strategies with institutional goals. Representing the academic affairs department in various forums and discussions.
Engr. Carmelo Suazo Llanto
Professor III
Engr. Carmelo S. Llanto is a tenured Professor and a seasoned academic leader. He served as the Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Sciences (CIES) for nearly a decade. Prior to this, he held the position of Director for Research, Development, and Extension Services for six years. On August 1, 2021, he was appointed as the Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Planning, a role he fulfilled until December 31, 2021. Beginning January 1, 2022, he assumed his current post as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance.
