127 Years Later: Is It Still a “Bayang Magiliw”?
ASSCAT President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano, together with Supervising Administrative Officer Ruth S. Desamparo and the ASSCAT Project Management Unit headed by Engr. Ram Caldeo, conducted an inspection today of the ongoing construction of the College of Engineering and Information Sciences (CEIS) Integrated Laboratory Center, Phase 1.
The project, implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region XIII and undertaken by Thearis Builders and Supply, began on November 14, 2024, with a contract cost of โฑ29,350,000.00. Following project adjustments, the revised contract amount is โฑ29,849,977.83, with an updated target completion date of April 18, 2026. As of the inspection, the project has achieved 65% accomplishment, showing positive slippage that reflects steady progress in its implementation.
Representatives from both the contractor and DPWH joined the inspection, including Engr. Radney G. Fernandez, Project Engineer of Thearis Builders and Supply, and Engr. Charlie Magne R. Fallado, Engineer II of DPWH.
Once completed, the CEIS Integrated Laboratory Center will feature modern, state-of-the-art facilities designed to strengthen laboratory instruction, research, and innovation at ASSCAT. The center will support hands-on learning and advanced training for engineering and information sciences students, equipping them with the technical competencies and practical skills demanded by industries locally and globally.
President Capistrano highlighted the significance of the project as part of ASSCATโs journey toward full university conversion. โThis project is not just about completing a building. It is about fulfilling our promise to provide better, modern facilities for our students as we continue our transition into a full-fledged university,โ she said.
She further stressed that the laboratory center is a long-term investment in the youth and in the development of the region. โThis Integrated Laboratory Center represents our vision of academic excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness. It is a facility that will prepare our graduates to meet the challenges of the future, while affirming our commitment to quality education and regional progress,โ she added.
